Week in Rock Part 2

Just a few days after climbing R & D with John, I was back in Leavenworth to climb again.  This time Dan was back - we had climbed together last month - and was looking for more crack climbing and multi-pitch practice.

So we spent the morning cragging, let a brief rain shower pass by, then found A Slice of the Ice on Duty Dome.  This 3-pitch 5.7 (4 pitches if you top out and hike off) featured some great face climbing and interesting route finding.  If every pitch was as good as the first, this route would be 3-star in the guidebook and not just a 1-star.  But add this up with some great 5.8-5.10 single-pitch routes at the toe of the dome, Duty Dome is potentially a fantastic day of climbing.

Dan's grinning after the second pitch of A Slice of the Ice.

Topping out on pitch 3.  A fourth pitch (5.4)
gains the top of the dome and  a walking descent.

Statistics:  28 May, Northwest Mountain School.  Barney's Rubble, two un-named 5.6.  Duty Dome, A Slice of the Ice, 5.7, 3 pitches / 240'.
