Empty Country, Endless Potential

Yesterday I drove across Nevada to Salt Lake City.  Working for Brooks Range Mountaineering at the Summer Outdoor Retailer Show.  The drive from Bishop took me across some unfamiliar country, through some modern bust-towns like Tonopah, where the only restaurants were attached to casinos, leaving only pawn shops in the wake.

Of course I was more interested in rocks instead of people.  I found some scruffy stuff reminiscent of Smith Rock outside of Tonopah.  Ely has a ton of limestone surrounding town.  Once I reached the Nevada state line the exploration was basically over, and I watched the thunderstorms sail past as I finished the drive into SLC.
