Vertfest 2011 Starts Today!!
Just in case you missed my post from two weeks ago - Vertfest 2011 starts today - a weekend gathering of the backcountry tribe, a time to share gear, beer, and stories at Snoqualmie Pass.
Clinics on Saturday by the uber-talented backcountry ski guides from Pro Guiding Service and Outdoor Research athletes at Alpental Ski Area. These clinics are all 75-85% filled, but the event managers at Alpental, Outdoor Research, and Pro Guiding Services are making sure that there is enough staffing to not turn anyone away - walk-ins are welcome!
Movies Saturday night showing the Backcountry Film Festival at the North Bend Theatre.
On Sunday there's a Randonee Race up and around Alpental Ski Area with Recreation and Race divisions - this is a perfect venue to try your first rando rally! I worked all day yesterday - and will wrap it up today - with other guides from Pro Guiding Service and the Alpental Ski Patrol to set up the race course. It follows almost the identical line to last years, with a few improvements to make crowd/race management a little better. Its a sick course - especially the Race Divisions second uphill lap! I'm half-disappointed that I can't be there tomorrow, and half-relieved I have to go guiding instead!
