In a good season, by the end of February ski area staffs start to be burned out from the constant pressure to perform. This year, we were all starting to get frustrated by how slow business had been. Regardless, Alpine Meadows invited its staff to come to the Alpine Bar for a chance to relax. The bribe of free food helped as well.
The 80's theme and costume competition inspired everyone to really empty out the closet - there was an astonishing number of one-piece ski suits and tight pants. After enough beer or wine we had several people convinced they were lost members of Def Leppard, AC/DC, and Great White on the karaoke machine. Wow.
